Hans Witt was born on December 25, 1909 in Bautzen, Saxony, and in 1931 he enlisted in the navy as a cadet through the first few years on several ships in the navy school including the Gorch Fock and Schlageter.Nell 'in October of 1940 he entered the training program for U-Boot and May 14, 1942 Witt was promoted to lieutenant and appointed commander of U-129, which completed three missions and won several successes in the waters of the Atlantic and Caraibi.Il 17 December 1942 was awarded the Cross of cavaliere.L 'Witt spent years following a long period in the ranks of the BDU (Operationsabteilung - Department tactical operations command U-Boot) . In the last years of the war was one of the most decorated commanders of U-boats (as Schnee, Cremer, Emmermann and Topp) who took command of the new family of U-boats known as Elektro Boots (Class XXI and XXIII) to try to overturn the situation of the war in Atlantico.Al end of the war the commander Hans Witt had scored in the sinking of 19 ships totaling 100,773 tons, died Feb. 13, 1980 in Hamburg.
